DRIVEWAY PERMIT INFORMATION:
Anyone desiring to relocate an existing driveway or expand any driveway in existence is required
to obtain a permit.
The municipal code divides driveways into two categories:
- Hard surfaced meaning a driveway
paved with materials such as asphalt, concrete or brick.
- Porous surfaced meaning a driveway
consisting of four (4) inches of finely crushed stone.
(Please note that, when a porous driveway is put in or expanded or modified, the first twenty (20)
feet connecting the driveway to the street right-of-way needs to be of hard surface.)
An application to obtain a driveway permit is relatively easy to obtain. The owner of the property
needs to come into the City Hall and fill out an application. Along with the application, a plot of
the property showing the shape of the lot in relation to any streets and/or building on the lot, and
the proposed location of the driveway with dimensions (length, width, etc.) are required. You may
also draw the plot on the reverse side of the application. A $15.00 Administrative permit fee is required.
In January of 1996 a new addition to the driveway regulations was added. The new regulations state
that, prior to the issuance of an Occupancy Permit; driveways will be inspected for open cracks, breaks,
missing components and depressions. This does not necessarily mean that a whole new driveway is required.
