Historic Preservation Commission

About Us

The focus of the Rock Hill Historic Preservation Commission is to preserve and promote local history through the restoration of the James C. Marshall House, Fairfax (1840-1841). Fairfax is situated on the northeast corner of Manchester and McKnight Roads in Rock Hill.

The Commission published a historic structures report in 2003 entitled Sentinel On Manchester Road. This document helped Fairfax to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places with the National Park Service. It is a comprehensive report available for reading in the Rock Hill Public Library and contains many interesting photographs, early maps, and history dealing with life in our town some 175 years ago.
