Hudson Playground Project

UPDATE 11/23: The City has been awarded the Round 24 Municipal Park Grant for the renovation of the Hudson School Playground. Updates on the timeline of the project will be updated here once available.

In 2019 a group of dedicated parents from Hudson Elementary School approached the City about the possibility of working together to re-design the playground on the grounds of Hudson School. The City agreed to work with the parents to see how we could make this project a reality. The City felt the first step in working together would be by applying for funding from the St. Louis Municipal Park Grant. The Rock Hill Parks and Recreation Commission had already been planning to apply for the grant to renovate portions of Turner Park so the Hudson Playground project was put on hold. In 2021, a new Playground Committee was formed and met with the City. As the first step in the project, Allison and Leah reached out to the City of Warson Woods about the possibility of joining their Municipal Park funds with the City of Rock Hill. The Warson Woods Board of Alderman agreed to partner and the cities were awarded the Municipal Park Planning Grant. This grant has allowed the City to hire a landscape architect firm, DG2 Design.  The Playground Committee along with the City and DG2 Design have been working on the first steps in design for what the updates on the Playground could look like.

The City of Rock Hill plans to apply for the Municipal Park Grant in August of 2023 and hopes to get this project underway in 2024.
